Follow us on Real-time fact-checking Remember Pop-Up Video, the VH-1 show that added snarky pop-up messages to music videos? It was like the Annotated Shakespeare, except it was for Michael Jackson. Readers often ask if we can do the same thing for political debates, with little bubbles popping up when a candidate utters a falsehood. We're not quite at that point, but if you've followed our debate coverage on Twitter and our website in the last couple of weeks, you've noticed that we're doing some real-time fact-checking. For Wednesday night's debate at the Reagan Library, we continuously tweeted and updated our main story with links to our fact-checks. Yesterday, we posted three new Truth-O-Meter items on the debate. We'll be doing even more Monday night for the CNN-tea party debate in Tampa and for all the debates from now on, so make sure you follow us on Twitter or check the site. And while the spotlight has been on the Republicans, we've also been doing lots of fact-checks on Democrats: -
The New Hampshire Democratic Party earned a Half True for its claim that high school graduation rate fell four notches under Gov. Rick Perry. -
Vice President Joe Biden earned a False for saying that Rep. Paul Ryan's budget plan "ends Medicare" in 10 years. -
President Obama earned a Half True for his claim that the United States won every major battle in Vietnam. Finally, an update on our PolitiFact app for iPhones, iPads, Android devices and the Nook. We're honored to see that Barnes & Noble this week named it one of the hot apps of the season for the Nook. We're finishing work on a new version of the app for all devices and it has a great new Pants on Fire feature you won't want to miss. (You can buy it now and then get the update for free when it's available.)
