Follow us on Our new Pants on Fire button When you think of PolitiFact, you probably think of our fact-checking or our campaign promise meters, two features that hold elected officials accountable for what they say. But this week, we're introducing something that is totally frivolous -- and a heck of a lot of fun. We're unveiling a new Pants on Fire button in our PolitiFact app that is essentially a do-it-yourself Truth-O-Meter. When you hear someone utter something that is ridiculously false, just push the button. An animated meter will appear and your phone will say, "Pants on Fire!" (Check out a video of it here.) If you already have our app for iPhone, iPad or Android, the new feature is part of a free update. If you don't have it, now is a great time to visit the iTunes or Android stores and get it. Meanwhile, we've been doing lots of fact-checking. In the last few days, we've examined several claims about President Obama's jobs bill: U.S. Rep. David Scott, a Democrat from Georgia, got a Half True for his claim that the bill would mean that states would no longer have to lay off firefighters, teachers and police officers. Fox News host Sean Hannity earned a True for his claim that the bill included protection for people who are unemployed that would allow them to sue for discrimination. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor earned a Mostly False for his claim that the bill taxes soup kitchens. Looking ahead to next week, we'll be doing lots more fact-checking (if we can stop playing with the Pants on Fire button).
